116 ATU

116 ATU formed part of Canada's commitment to UNEF ME. The initial commitment of two Buffalo aircraft arrived in Cairo (click to see aerial image at Google Maps) on January 9, 1974. The third Buffalo went into service with 116 ATU in mid-June 1974. During July and August 1974 the headquarters of both UNEF and the Canadian contingent were moved east from Cairo to Ismailia (click to see aerial image at Google Maps) on the Suez Canal. 116 ATU remained in service until late 1979. Approximately 620 Canadians served in 116 ATU through the six years of operations.
